In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazi psychopaths.
You have to ask yourself the question, why should a great actor like Brad Pitt waste his talents on shlock like this. The answer being that there is something buried deeper in this curious story.
Quentin Tarantino knows this is a fantasy movie because his group successfully assassinates Hitler which really did not happen.
Nor did any of the activity in this movie happen except for the fact that Psychopathic Nazi collaborators were brought back to the West after the war and the families of people who funded Hitler, like Grandfather Prescott Bush, are still in politics and banking.
As Brad Pitt says at the end of the movie, “How am I going to know that you are a Nazi when I see you back in America” as he carves a swastika with his Bowie Knife into the forehead of the collaborator.
